Sofielund is a year-round hostel with a campsite, run by the Sala Mission congregation. June-August, the summer café and outdoor activities are open. During the summer, a varied program is offered with religious services, concerts, guided walks etc
There are good opportunities for sports and games. At Sofielund there is mini-golf, Frisbee golf, a cooperative course, a soccer field, a bowling alley and a volleyball court, as well as a playground for the smaller children. In addition, there are wind shelters and barbecue areas in the area.

LOCATION:

Sofielund is nestled in greenery by the beautiful Mellandammen. The facility is surrounded by Sala's finest walking areas with several hiking trails, e.g. The Gruvdammsrundan, which is a total of 26,8 km.
It is walking distance to the Sala silver mine with the Aspentorp nature reserve, Knektleden and Herr Stens bottom. Sala city center, with shops and beautiful parks, is within walking distance.

FACILITY:

Sofielund is a fresh hostel with a main building from 1881 which is surrounded by a beautiful park.
The campsite has electrical sockets for 14 caravans, of which 2 pitches. There is also a grass area for tents. The hostel has a total of 14 beds. 1-4-bed rooms are available in a separate
hostel building and 1-2-bed rooms are in the main building.
The covered summer church has a stage and infrared heating and can hold around 75 people. Adjacent to the summer church is a large park area with garden furniture, which means that there is room for many more visitors at concerts, church services and other events. The summer church is equipped with a professional sound system.

EXPERIENCES:

A visit to the Sala silver mine, with guided tours, is recommended. In the silver mine, minerals have been mined from the end of the 1400th century right into the 1900th century. It has been the treasury of the kingdom of Svea where mainly silver was mined for the crown's coins, but other minerals were also mined there. Some refraction still exists. Sala is rich in ancient remains and cultural-historical remains. Cultural/city walks in Sala with preserved urban buildings in the unique grid city, are available.
In the areas around Sofielund and Sala there are several old churches with e.g. medieval paintings by Albertus Pictor. For those interested in art, there is also the Agueli Museum in the center of Sala.
In Svartådalen, a Natura2000 area located within Sala municipality, there are valuable natural areas and a rich bird life. There is also the nature reserve Hälleskogsbrännan, which was formed after the big fire in 2014. There you can observe nature's own ability to recover. The area is set up with information boards showing how the fire spread over the huge area. Footpaths and footbridges have been built and make parts of the area accessible also with wheelchairs and prams.
